This building was custom built for the Home Hardware Organization in 2004. With this tenant and new build, Fort Properties saw an opportunity to convert a parking lot into a vibrant and pedestrian-oriented street frontage and commercial hub to better serve the needs of residents in both Oak Bay and Victoria. Long before green building technology became the norm, this building employs passive haus heating and cooling strategies, maximizes natural daylight, and features bioswale landscaping to filter rainwater run-off. The broken sidewalk was redesigned to create a tree lined pedestrian walkway, further improving the streetscape of central Oak Bay Avenue. The locally owned business of Home Hardware has thrived as a welcome addition to the amenities available to the surrounding communities.
