DESCRIPTION

1001 Blanshard Street is located on the northeast corner of Blanshard and Broughton Streets directly across from the Royal Theatre. At the south end of the revitalized Fort-Blanshard retail and restaurant district, and bordering The Fort Common, the building is a focal point of this unique and vibrant neighbourhood that is emerging at the seam between Victoria’s urban core and the residential neighborhoods of Fairfield and Rockland. 

The property underwent an extensive renovation to convert it from office to a mixed-use building that, together with the occupants, more effectively serve the growing residential and business community in the area. In addition to cosmetic improvements, the building received seismic upgrades, rain gardens to manage storm water, and innovative energy efficiency measures. One new architectural feature of note is the steel and glass covered stairway which serves as the main entrance to the 2nd floor restaurant space. Fort Properties’ wishes to “make healthy choices easy”, and as such decided to make ascending the stairs the most fun and pleasurable way to access The Livet restaurant.

The second floor is leased to a local restaurateur (The Livet) and includes an expansive south-facing rooftop patio with a view of the beautiful heritage façade of the Royal Theatre. The ground floor is comprised of three separate units with a core of common area washrooms and shower facilities for tenant use. The three ground floor units have been leased, respectively, to: Ticket Rocket (a local technology company), local coffee shop Discovery Coffee’s fourth location, and Farm + Field Butchers, a new full service butcher shop specializing in the whole animal butchery of ethically raised meat and poultry grown as close to home as possible.
