The Fort Common Courtyard (Copy)

Let us reintroduce you to the Fort Common - our eco-district courtyard designed in collaboration with Cascadia Architects.

When Cascadia were midst revitalization plans of the Blanshard and Fort corner in 2012, the opportunity arose to adapt and revise the courtyard - used prior as a parking lot and service area. This “unique open-air market area" has since become an accessible courtyard that is home to live music and good conversation, a public space that connects and creates the Fort, Blanshard & Broughton district.

While embracing growth and redesigning with historical elements, this adaptive reuse project was complete after adding in bioswales, blueberry bushes and mobile furniture. The Fort Common is open to the public in the spring and summer, pedestrian- and dog-friendly and is considered the patio to surrounding restaurants. Most weekends, the Fort Common is host to events and weddings.

The Fort Common district, as described by Cascadia is “creating spacial opportunities within a growing community while identifying new community space through the process of design.” - Peter, Principal, Cascadia Architects.
