Full-Time Controller

Fort Properties is looking for a Controller to join our small, family-owned team in Victoria, B.C. This role isn’t just about spreadsheets. It’s about helping a growing real estate business thrive while keeping our properties, projects, and people running smoothly.

This is a full-time, in-person salary position based in Victoria, BC.

  • If you’re someone who likes to see the impact of your work and thrives in a role that blends strategy, leadership, and day-to-day financial oversight, this is the job for you.

    • Lead and manage all accounting operations: accounts payable/receivable, payroll, bank reconciliations, and reporting.

    • Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial planning, and investment activities.

    • Prepare, review, and analyze internal and external financial statements, providing insights and recommendations to leadership.

    • Manage development project financing, including construction loan compliance, draw requests, and lender reporting.

    • Track construction budgets, review change orders, and maintain accurate forecasts for ongoing development projects.

    • Supervise annual CAM reconciliations and coordinate tenant communications.

    • Ensure compliance with tax, regulatory, and lender reporting requirements.

    • Hire, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering a collaborative and supportive team environment.

    • Partner with property managers and leadership to identify efficiencies, cost savings, and opportunities to improve performance.

    • Support the business owner with personal financial management and tax coordination when needed.

    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with CPA designation required.

    • 5-7 years+ of relevant independent experience in accounting roles.

    • Proven experience with financial project management.

    • Financial planning and analysis or operations experience is an asset.

    • Comfortable with accounting software (Yardi Breeze preferred) and advanced Excel skills.

    • Strong financial analysis, reporting, and internal control skills.

    • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills (you can explain numbers to anyone).
